SW 209th Avenue is east of the city of Hillsboro's South Hillsboro development. 209th Avenue is a two-lane street with dedicated left-turn lanes at Tualatin Valley Highway (OR-8). There are intermittent sidewalks and no bike lanes.
We are improving 209th Avenue between Alexander Street and Kinnaman Road by:
- Widening 209th Avenue to five lanes: Two travel lanes in each direction and a center-turn lane.
- Upgrading crossing surface, gates, lights and signals at the railroad crossing south of TV Highway.
- Upgrading the traffic signal at the intersection of 209th Avenue and TV Highway.
- Upgrading the traffic signal at the intersection of 209th Avenue and Blanton Street.
- Installing about 800 feet of sidewalk on the north side of Alexander Street between 209th Avenue and the existing sidewalk to the east.
- Adding bike lanes and upgrading sidewalks.
- Installing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant curb ramps.
- Adding bus pullouts on TV Highway at 209th Avenue.
- Improving street lighting.
- Adding landscaping, stormwater drains, and a regional water facility for treatment of stormwater runoff.
We will have two street closures: One north of TV Highway and one south of the highway. We are coordinating the closures with the Century Boulevard and Cornelius Pass Road projects. We will have nighttime lane closures and flagging on TV Highway near 209th Avenue.
